Good News | English Department Undergraduates Shi Weizhen, Chen Yuanyi, and Wang Yuchen Won the Second Prize in the Shanghai Regional Competition of the 4th “SFLEP Cup” National College Students’ Intercultural Competence Contest

On November 28th, the final of the Shanghai regional competition of the 4th“SFLEP Cup”National College Students’Intercultural Competence Contest came to a close. Three undergraduatesenrolled in2020, Shi Weizhen, Chen Yuanyi, and Wang Yuchen, performed excellently in this competition and won the second prize. The competition was guided by Wan Xiaomeng and Zhou Feng.

The“SFLEP Cup”National College Students’Intercultural Competence Contest is hosted by Shanghai International Studies University, organized by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and academically supported by the Intercultural Research Center of Shanghai International Studies University. The competition aims to be guided by the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, thoroughly implement higher education strategies, focus on building a first-class language and cultural competition platform for college students, assist in exploring new models of talent cultivation in higher education, promote international exchanges and cooperation, deepen understanding and friendship among people of all countries, and cultivate compound, high-quality, and outstanding international talents for promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and advancing“Belt and Road”international cooperation.

Due to the pandemic, the competition was temporarily changed to an online format. The three undergraduates from our English Department promptly adjusted their strategies based on the online competition format, showcasing the elegance and talent of the School of Foreign Studies of Tongji University in the competition with other 28 universities, and receiving high scores and recognition from several judges.

This competition aims to promote learning through competition, allowing students to develop Chinese sentiments and international perspectives through practice. Our students’achievement of the second prize on behalf of Tongji University fully demonstrates the effectiveness of the college in cultivating students’intercultural communication abilities.
