Applied semiotics applies semiotic theory to a wide range of domains,, examining issues such asthesemiological form, typological properties,semioticprocesses, and connotations of signs. Multimodal research, in contrast,focuses on the various semiotic resourcesinvolved in meaning-making. To foster interdisciplinary integrationofapplied semiotics and multimodal research in China, the “National Forum on Applied Semiotics and Multimodal Research” is scheduled to be held at Tongji University from October 15 to 17, 2021.The forum ishosted by The Committee of Semiotics of the Association for Logic in China and organized by the School of Foreign Studies of Tongji University andTongji Institute of Linguistics and Multimodality.Due to Covid-19 protocols, theforumwill be held online instead of the originally planned in-person format..A meeting ofChina SemioticsResearchBase Alliancewill also be held during theforum. The organizing committee will invite well-known scholars from home and abroad to deliver keynote speeches. Faculty and students arewarmlywelcome to attend.
Conference Theme:
This forumfeaturestwo parallelstrands: applied semiotics and multimodal research, and especially welcomes multi-field and multi-disciplinary research. Participantsmaychoose one of thetwo strandstopresenttheirwork, andstudiesthat integrate bothstrandsare particularlyencouraged.
